Shanghai
Shanghai is one of China's three municipalities directly under the central government, with an urban population of 12,000,000 people. The city, built on the banks of the Yangtze River, is characterized by the Bund, an imposing row of attractive office buildings and hotels built early in the century by foreigners as palatial homes for the staff of the leading foreign-based businesses.
Shanghai, developed from a fishing village with more than 2000 years, today has become the largest industrial city in China, as well as the trade, information and cultural center of the country. It, however, remains a mixture of modern and traditional with many exciting attractions for the visitors.
TYuyuan Garden - It is a classical garden with a history of over 400 years. Halls, chambers, pavilions and tows, rockeries and steams all express the essence of the art of gardening of south gardens in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Jade Buddha Temple - It was built to enshrine the two jade Buddha statues brought back from Burma by Monk Huigeng, hence the name. The jade statue in sitting posture is 1.9 m tall. It was carved out of a single piece of white jade. The reclining statue is 4.6 m long.
Oriental Pearl TV Tower - The highest in Asia and third highest in the world, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is 468m high. The tower combines sightseeing, catering, recreation, accommodation, broadcasting and TV transmission into one entity
Shanghai Museum - Shanghai museum is a large comprehensive art museum with a collection of 123,000 pieces of cultural relics in 21 categories. There are 10 exhibition halls classified according to special topics, one hall with collections donated by people and 3 temporary exhibition halls.
